Is your engine running a little hot these days? Well, whether you are on the road or just trying to make it home, these 5 tips to cool down an overheating Jeep engine are going to help! Read on to learn what to do!

  1. Turn off the air conditioning. Roll down the windows! This might seem like a simple idea, and it is. The engine has to work overtime to keep turning the air conditioners compressor. If your engine is running a bit hot, try turning off the A/C and give it a few minutes!
  2. Crank the heat! The main thing is to pull the hear away from the engine, usually the radiator does an excellent job of doing this. But people seem to forget the heater core is basically a smaller radiator. Turning on the your heater can help pull heat from your engine. It may make it a bit uncomfortable in the Jeep, but it will help keep the engine from overheating.
  3. Use your brakes less! Every time you use your brakes, you need to give it more gas to get back up to speed. Using more gas will create more heat in the engine. Let yourself coast more and it will help keep the heat under control.
  4. Park your vehicle and lightly rev the engine. Keeping your jeep cool can be as easy as just letting the water pump and radiator fan do its job. Pulling over to keep the load off of the engine and letting the Jeep rev a bit (around 1500 rpm) can get the coolant flowing and help cool down the Jeep fast. If you don’t see immediate results, assume that it’s not your best solution.
  5. Already boiled over? If its already too late, pull your Jeep over somewhere safe, preferably in the shade or by some water. Shut it down, get out and carefully open the hood. The Jeep is gonna need some time to cool down before starting it again. Make sure the Jeep is VERY cooled down before attempting to check the coolant level. If the coolant is still hot and pressurized it could spray out and give you some pretty bad burns, not to mention coolant is pretty toxic stuff. You will need to add some coolant if the Jeep has boiled over.
